Jerry the Chinchilla
I had Jerry from just after he was born in 2004, after being persuaded to get a chinchilla by my then-girlfriend, who had seen one at the West Midland Safari Park earlier in the year and had fallen in love with them. I had kept gerbils as a teenager, and a chinchilla was a more practical option than a dog (the other pet choice I was given) at the time, so I agreed to this. The relationship with Jerry lasted much longer than the relationship with the girlfriend (we agreed that I would have custody of Jerry when we broke up, which I felt was the best option for him).
He wasn't the easiest of things to photograph; point a camera at him and most times he either ran off or came over to investigate. He was definitely the most photographed pet that my family has ever had (I always felt that the family pets of my childhood were never photographed enough, especially my gerbils). In restoring this collection, I have decided to use only my digital photographs of him as the majority are digital anyway and they tend to be better quality. The only downside of this is that due to my compact not using EXIF and gaps in my records, I cannot give exact dates for the compact digital photographs.
As a rule, I won't put my personal photographs on this site; this collection is the exception. I don't intend to make any of these available for general purchase, but am prepared to consider publishing requests.
Jerry Donovan Kyte passed away on the 29th October 2019 aged 15 years and 4 months (his middle name acknowledges the part my ex-girlfriend played in his life).
