Cropthorne Walkabout 2024
Photographs taken on day 1 (the Sunday) of the event. This marked my return to the event after six years; I felt that my work in 2018 was becoming somewhat repetitive, and wanted to allow a significant period before I came back to perhaps permit a fresh perspective on the gardens. I had planned to return in 2023, but felt the weather at the time wasn't quite good enough for my requirements; the 2024 event weather was better, even if the initial sunny conditions became more overcast as the day went on (I might actually have been better off on the Monday, when the weather conditions were reversed).
As to the fresh perspective, in some cases I was successful; in others I was less so. Most of the open gardens I had visited before, but there was one that I hadn't, and it is perhaps not surprising that produced quite a lot of photographs. A couple of the gardens could probably have benefited from being visited at a different point in the day, under different lighting conditions, and this may be something I will have to take into account in future visits.
This is not a particularly large collection, as - where possible - I've tried to avoid repeating views from the 2018 collection. The expansion of the Cropthorne Light Railway has resulted in them getting a separate collection, and the motor vehicles photographed have been placed into the "Civilian Vehicles" collection.
